Stimulator Fly

Kaufmann introduced the Stimulator pattern in 1982 to imitate salmon flies. The Stimulator also makes a good hopper imitation. Up here in Maine we use them to imitate big stone flies in the late spring, which we often call “big uglies”. This is a great fly for a dry dropper rig as well.

Hook: Firehole Outdoors 718 hopper hook. This is an extended length hook with a 2X+ gape. It has a straight eye and is formed from a medium-heavy weight wire.
