Perdigon #16

The Maple Syrup is a well known and well deserved replica of a Hexagenia mayfly nymph that is known to most fly fishers. This should be the first fly you tie on if you find yourself on a body of water with silt or mud on the bottom. This fly used to be somewhat of a secret amongst Maine Guide’s in the North Maine Woods back in the day. At lunch time around camp the guide’s would hide their fly rods so that know one would know that they were using the secret fly, The Maple Syrup. Sometimes we overcomplicate our fly patterns, this fly is a perfect example of less is more.
