The original Midas Fly is actually a European competition dry fly that mimics a hopper or caddis fly, its a highly effective searching pattern. It is called the Midas Fly because of the ‘gold’ head. I personally prefer to tie and fish this fly as a weighted bead head and dead drift it as a nymph (single or under a dry fly as a dry/dropper rig). I have had great success fishing for wild trout with the bead head variant in size #10.
